The Righters Untie! Season 6 Writing Contest, started by Dominick Torro is a follow-up to the Season 5 scriptwriting contest started by Dan Hoger. It was developed in light of yet another Lost hiatus between Season 5 and Season 6. Like the Season 5 Writing Contest, it was mostly based on the framework established by the Lostpedia Season Four Writing Contest.

Each round, scripts were submitted to imagine a community-based hypothetical Season Six, based on actual Lost canon (not the Season Five Writing Contest). Centric characters for each episode, as opposed to the previous contests, were left open-ended as it was decided that Season Five had redefined centricity. Like the Season Five Contest, some episodes included a writer's challenge - a storytelling objective of some sort that every writer was required to incorporate into their scripts.

Contest History[]

Arrival[]

Arrival is the first episode of the Righters Untie! Season Six Writing Contest and was selected as the winning script on June 4, 2009. Jack finds himself in an all too familiar setting as the aftermath of the incident is revealed. Meanwhile, Ben realizes his actions may not have been the wisest as he is given a new task by 'Locke' - bring Jack Shephard to him. Desmond receives a visit from Jacob who tells him he must return to the island. Sawyer seeks vengeance upon Jack, but both men are shocked to discover that John Locke is anything but dead.

The contest opened with the writing of the premiere episode on May 11, 2009. The deadline for all entries was May 31st, and voting for the 25 submissions began the following day. The public voting placed One Is Light, One Is Dark as the favorite. However, on June 24th, the voting subsided and Arrival (by Skolo) was named the winner of the first episode of the contest. One Is Light, One Is Dark, Terminus, Fallout, This Place Called Home, In Need, Drawing the Battle Lines, Retrieve The Fallen The Turning Of The Tide received honorable mentions.


There's Something About Hurley[]

There's Something About Hurley is the second episode of the Righters Untie! Season Six Writing Contest and was selected as the winning script on June 17, 2009. Richard and the Others head to the Barracks in order to find answers from Locke’s impersonator whilst he himself begins to recruit his first players. Ilana and Bram find Hurley in the jungle, and Hurley reveals he is more important that even he knows. This round of episodes also implemented the first episode challenge of the season which required scripts to develop and arc for the next few episodes, and would link with the end of the series. There's Something About Hurley referenced the coming war between 'Locke' and the Others/Ilana's group, and introduced Jacob's gun - a weapon which is to be used by Hurley, and can apparently 'kill' the Monster.

The contest opened with the writing of the second episode on June 5, 2009. The deadline for all entries was June 12, and voting for the 12 submissions began the following day. The public voting placed War Is Coming as the favorite. However, on June 17, the voting subsided and There's Something About Hurley (by Nigel) was named the winner of the second episode of the contest. The Black Swan, Death Be Not Proud, War Is Coming, and The Black Rock received honorable mentions.


The Loophole[]

The Loophole is the third episode of the Righters Untie! Season Six Writing Contest and was selected as the winning script on June 29, 2009. Richard, Frank, and Sun make their way to the Arrow and discover from Richard that Jacob may still be alive. A re-appearance by an unlikely face in the unlikeliest of "times" makes us question if what we've learned may not necessarily be true.

The contest opened with the writing of the third episode on June 17, 2009. The deadline for all entries was June 29, and voting for the 13 submissions began the following day. The public voting resulted in a tie between To Be Frank and The Loophole as the favorite. On June 29, the voting subsided and The Loophole (by C.S.) was named the winner of the third episode of the contest. Faith Alone, Down the Rabbit Hole, 144,000, and To Be Frank received honorable mentions.

New Recurring Character Contest[]

A sub-contest was held alongside episode 3. The premise was to create a "casting call" for a new recurring character to be introduced in the next episode. Many characters were submitted and voted on by the public, and the following four tied with seven votes each: Nicholas Hobbes (played by Rufus Sewell), Allison Kemp (played by Sprauge Grayden), Harry Kincade (played by Joel Edgerton), and Abraham Posoda (played by Javier Bardem). The winning character was decided to be Abraham Posoda on July 11, when The Final Pieces was chosen as the winner of episode 4.

The Final Pieces[]

The Final Pieces is the fourth episode of the Righters Untie! Season Six Writing Contest and was selected as the winning script on July 11, 2009. During the time of The Black Rock, Richard and Desmond meet up with someone who has been absent for a while now and start Desmond’s mission. "Flashbacks" show why Desmond decided to return, and who he is now working for. On the island in 2007, Sayid’s fate is revealed and a major player arrives on the island. This round of episodes also implemented the second episode challenge of the season which required scripts to both introduce one of the four winning characters in the new recurring character contest and finish Sayid's healing process. The Final Pieces introduced Abraham Posoda as a man with his own agenda who apparently lived on the island long ago and is now helping Desmond and Walt to get back as well as had Nehemiah use Sayid's appearance to his own advantage while killing Sayid himself.

The contest opened with the writing of the fourth episode on June 29, 2009. The deadline for all entries was July 11, and voting for the 14 submissions began the following day. The public voting placed Revival as the favorite. However, on June 29, the voting subsided and The Final Pieces (by Dominick) was named the winner of the fourth episode of the contest. The Haunted Man, Revival, Masquerade, El Ojo Del Diablo, Flaw & Order, and The Past, the Future received honorable mentions.



Bound By Fear[]

Bound By Fear is the fifth episode of the Righters Untie! Season Six Writing Contest and was selected as the winning script on July 23 2009. Claire makes a mysterious reappearance alongside Christian Shepard, who she is strangely terrified of. Meanwhile, Ilana and Bram's plans go awry when they change course for the temple. In flashbacks, we learn what happened to Claire and how she was trapped and frightened. This round of episodes also implemented the third episode challenge of the season which required scripts to pick a long-standing mystery in the show's mythology from a list and explain it in the script. Bound by Fear answered the questions ‘Why must Aaron not be “raised by another”?’ (he didn’t need to be; Abraham pretended to be a young couple in LA and bribed Malkin in order to get Claire and Aaron to the Island; they are both descendants of Nehemiah and therefore have the potential to kill him) and ‘What has Claire been doing?’ (Claire has lost her memories due to trauma caused by the smoke monster and was trapped in ‘Jacob’s’ cabin by Christian for three years).

The contest opened with the writing of the fifth episode on July 11, 2009. The deadline for all entries was July 18, and voting for the 14 submissions began the following day. The public voting placed Bound by Fear as the favorite. On July 22, voting subsided and Bound by Fear (by Losty) was named the winner of the fifth episode of the contest. Catch a Falling Star, Fate is a Four Letter Word, Mistress of the Horizon, No Time Like The Present and This Dying World received honorable mentions.



Beyond the Moon, Past the Stars[]

Beyond the Moon, Past the Stars is the sixth episode of the Righters Untie! Season Six Writing Contest and was selected as the winning script on August 10, 2009. Ilana desperately tries to retrieve Jacob’s gun from Cindy as they make their way across the Island to find their new target, Frank. Meanwhile, Richard’s group converges with Abraham’s and Sun gives Claire a memory of the past. In flashbacks, Ilana’s shocking connection to the Island is revealed, as well as the true reason for her devotion to Jacob.

The contest opened with the writing of the sixth episode on July 23, 2009. The deadline for all entries was August 5 (but pushed back to August 10 due to low submission numbers), and voting for the 6 submissions began the following day. The public voting resulted in a tie between The Adventures of James Sawyer and Jim LaFleur and Beyond the Moon, Past the Stars as the favorite. On August 10, voting subsided and Beyond the Moon, Past the Stars (by Johno1995) was named the winner of the sixth episode of the contest. Angel and All Roads Lead to This received honorable mentions.



Behind Blue Eyes[]

Behind Blue Eyes is the seventh episode of the Righters Untie! Season Six Writing Contest and was selected as the winning script on August 22, 2009. Heading towards the Temple, Frank, Bram and Richard discover new aspects about themselves, as Ilana confronts Cindy about her affiliation with Nehemiah. Flashbacks explore Frank's past, including the incident that prevented him from flying Flight 815 and its aftermath. Behind Blue Eyes revealed Frank's candidacy to be about leading the Others, after Ben's exile and Locke's death.

The contest opened with the writing of the seventh episode on August 9, 2009. The deadline for all entries was August 17, and voting for the 12 submissions began the following day. The public voting placed Behind Blue Eyes as the favorite, and on August 22, the voting subsided and Behind Blue Eyes (by Obi-Dan Kenobi) was named the winner of the seventh episode of the contest. The Good Guys, We All Fall Down, and The Choices That We Make received honorable mentions.


Outcast[]

[1] is the eighth episode of the Righters Untie! Season Six Writing Contest and was selected as the winning script on September 2, 2009. The story follows Miles, Hurley, Kate, Sun, and Jin as they try to find and bury Sayid's body, and flashbacks explore Miles's life off-island and his connection with Libby.



White Feather[]

White Feather is the ninth episode of the Righters Untie! Season Six Writing Contest and was selected as the winning script on September 14, 2009. The episode showed in flashbacks how Charles Widmore returned to the island with Eloise Hawking.

The contest opened with the writing of the ninth on September 2, 2009. The deadline for all entries was September 9, and voting for the 4 submissions began the following day. The public voting placed White Feather as the favorite, and on September 14, the voting subsided and White Feather (by Orangesquash) was named the winner of the ninth episode of the contest. The Wizard received an honorable mention.


Do No Harm, Pt. 2[]


Do No Harm, Part 2 is the tenth episode of the Righters Untie! Season Six Writing Contest and was selected as the winning script on September 27th, 2007. This episode showed in flashbacks how Christian Shepard was used by Jacob to try and kill Nehemiah, and upon failing, was used to bring his son, Jack, up to become the man to kill Nehemiah.

The contest opened with the writing of the tenth episode on September 13, 2009. The deadline for all entries was September 21, and voting for the 4 submissions began the following day. The public voting placed "The Curator" as the favorite, and on September 26, the voting subsided and Do No Harm, Part 2 (by Sir692) was named the winner of the tenth episode of the contest. The Curator received an honorable mention.




The End of the Line[]

The End of the Line is the eleventh episode of the Righters Untie! Season Six Writing Contest and was selected as the winning script on October 23rd, 2007. The episode challenge was to be Jack-centric, and this episode followed Jack as he enters a hallucination induced by Jacob, where he sees the island in 2010. It also set up the final endgame of the season, with Jack wanting to destroy the island, re-introducing the volcano.

The contest opened with the writing of the eleventh episode on September 27, 2009, beginning a one-week haitus in the contest. The deadline for all entries was October 18, and voting for the 3 submissions began the following day. The public voting placed The End of the Line as the favorite, and on October 23, the voting subsided and The End of the Line (by Ed) was named the winner of the eleventh episode of the contest. War received an honorable mention.


Pompeii Dreams[]


Pompeii Dreams is the twelfth episode of the Righters Untie! Season Six Writing Contest and was selected as the winning script on November 4th, 2007. While Jack leads Jacob, Richard, and Walt to the volcano, flashbacks reveal how Aaron Littleton was brought back to the island.

The contest opened with the writing of the twelfth episode on October 22, 2009. The deadline for all entries was October 29, and voting for the 3 submissions began the following day. The public voting placed Pompeii Dreams as the favorite, and on November 15, the voting subsided and Pompeii Dreams (by Orangesquash) was named the winner of the twelfth episode of the contest. There were no honorable mentions due to there only being 3 submissions.



Beast from Dark, Beast from Light[]


Beast from Dark, Beast from Light is the thirteenth episode of the Righters Untie! Season Six Writing Contest and was selected as the winning script on November 15th, 2009. The story is told in one long flashback, telling the origin story of the two smoke monsters.

The contest opened with the writing of the thirteenth episode on November 3, 2009. The deadline for all entries was November 10, and voting for the 3 submissions began the following day. The public voting placed Beast from Dark, Beast from Light as the favorite, and on November 15, the voting subsided and Beast from Dark, Beast from Light (by Indy42) was named the winner of the thirteenth episode of the contest. There were no honorable mentions due to there only being 3 submissions.




The Gospel of John[]


The Gospel of John is the fourteenth episode of the Righters Untie! Season Six Writing Contest and was selected as the winning script on December 2, 2009. In the episode, Locke follows Richard on a journey to stop his transfer into a Monster. Meanwhile, Jacob gives a mission to Jack, and Ben confronts his enemy, while Walt learns the truth about his father.


The contest opened with the writing of the thirteenth episode on November 16, 2009. The deadline for all entries was extended to November 30, and voting for the 3 submissions began the following day. The public voting placed The Enemy (by Indy42) as the favorite, and on November 15, the voting subsided and The Gospel of John (by Flashback) was named the winner of the thirteenth episode of the contest. There were no honorable mentions due to there only being 3 submissions.




It Only Ends Once, pt. 1[]


It Only Ends Once, pt. 1 is the fifteenth episode of the Righters Untie! Season Six Writing Contest and was selected as the winning script on December 19, 2009. In the episode, Nehemiah's past is explored as Jack continues on his trek to destroy the island, a standoff evolves in the Anchor station, and Frank, Claire, and Desmond try desperately to find a way off of the island before it's too late.


The contest opened with the writing of the fifteenth episode on December 3, 2009. The deadline for all entries was extended to December 13, and voting for the 3 submissions began the following day. Those Who Will Save Us All and It Only Ends Once, pt. 1 (by Indy42) were the tied winners of the popular vote, and on December 19, the voting subsided and It Only Ends Once, pt. 1 (by Indy42) was named the winner of the fifteenth episode of the contest. There were no honorable mentions due to there only being 3 submissions.

The title of the episode was originally "Finale, pt. 1", set to be changed to the title of the winner of the finale. The title of the finale, "It Only Ends Once", became the title for this episode.


It Only Ends Once, pts. 2 and 3[]


It Only Ends Once, pts. 2 and 3 is the sixteenth, seventeenth, and final episode of the Righters Untie! Season Six Writing Contest and was selected as the winning script on February 1, 2009.


The contest opened with the writing of the thirteenth episode on December 20, 2009. The deadline for all entries was extended to January 15, and voting for the 3 submissions began the following day. It Only Ends Once, pts. 2 and 3 was the winner of the popular vote, and on February 1, the voting subsided and It Only Ends Once, pts. 2 and 3 (by Chris and Chubby) was named the winner of the sixteenth/seventeenth and final episode of the contest. There were no honorable mentions due to there only being 3 submissions.
