A common theory is that, perhaps, the writers of Lost have no idea what direction the show is headed. That the show's success and longevity have forced the writers to explain all the occurrences in early seasons. Although situations in new episodes have made efforts to explain the red herrings contained in earlier episodes, it is still probable that the writers themselves are as unsure of the plot's trajectory as their audience.
