Background
Born and raised in Mount Eliza, Victoria, Australia, Emilie de Ravin began taking ballet at age nine. By age fifteen, she was accepted into a highly selective Australian Ballet School in Melbourne; however, after only one year, she dropped out because she didn't like the "bitchy atmosphere." Afterward, Emilie began taking acting courses at Australia's National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA) and America's Prime Time Actors Studio.
Her first starring role was on the fantasy drama, "Beastmaster." When her agent told her about a role in the US, as newcomer Tess in the show "Roswell," she flew to the States to audition. After she won this role on "Roswell," she was written out of "Beastmaster" and began portraying Tess on "Roswell." Emilie quickly relocated to California and was shooting "Roswell" before she even had an apartment. [1]
Emilie spends much of her time in Hawaii filming Lost. Although this is time-consuming, she still finds time to pursue other acting projects. She recently played a murdered teenage drug addict in the film Brick (2005), and also starred in the 2006 remake of the classic horror film, The Hills Have Eyes.
Emilie and her longtime boyfriend, Josh Janowicz, became engaged on January 1, 2005 in Australia. On June 19, 2006, the two got married in her homeland. It was announced in January 2007 that Emilie and Josh had separated, [2] but on the April 28, 2007 episode of the XM Radio show Opie and Anthony, she announced that she was still happily married. The couple filed for divorce in June 2009.
Emilie now lives in California with her two dogs, Bella and Mabel. [3]

I want to pursue as much of a serious acting career as I can, not just a flimsy overnight career. I take it very seriously and I really want to pursue it for the rest of my life. | ” |
| “ |
It's actually fun to not know anyone and go out and find friends, or let them find you. | ” |
| “ |
A lot of people make a mistake by trying to be too different and too out there. If I want to stand out, I don't want to stand out in the wrong way. I prefer classic style, maybe some things that don't match perfectly. | ” |
