The Directors Guild of America, or (DGA), is the craft labor union representing directors for television and film productions in the United States. As all network television programs are, Lost's Grass Skirt Productions is a DGA signatory. Qualified directors and assistant directors are DGA members.
2008 contract expiration
The contracts of the DGA and the SAG (Screen Actors Guild) with movie and television producers in the United States, as represented by Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), expire in June 2008. The Writers Guild of America went on strike on November 5, 2007, and if a resolution is reached in that dispute with regard to new media, it could possibly influence the negotiations of the SAG and DGA. Alternatively, if the WGA is still striking by June 2008, it would likely increase all three unions' bargaining leverage by effectively creating a complete shutdown of Hollywood.
On January 17, 2008, the DGA negotiating committee reached a tentative agreement with the AMPTP, to be later brought to the DGA leadership and then the general membership for ratification. Industry watchers largely agreed that this agreement would be viewed as a template for further negotiations with then striking WGA, as well as SAG, whose contract expires in June 2008.
