  • A Boeing 777 has two black boxes, a cockpit voice recorder and a flight data recorder. Both are located in the tail section of any aircraft, so when Oceanic Flight 815 crashed both black boxes would be near the tailies beach. The black box 'acquired' by Charles Widmore is the flight data recorder as Sayid pointed out, and could be the real one that Widmore acquired so that he could make sure no one has any chance of finding it. The cockpit voice recorder would also be near by which would record the conversations in the cockpit by Seth Norris and the Co-pilot.
