Theories

A bartender worked at a British pub that Desmond and Donovan visited. He ducked when Jimmy Lennon tried to hit him a cricket bat, resulting in Desmond taking the blow. Desmond said that originally it was the bartender who was hit, but Desmond changed this when he "traveled back in time" and told the bartender to duck. Jimmy attempted to hit the bartender because he owed Jimmy money.
