The Arrow Orientation film was hosted by Pierre Chang. Chang explained that the Arrow's primary purpose was to create defensive strategies against the Island's natives.

This is the only DHARMA orientation film whose creation was actually shown in Lost.

Making of the film

The orientation was filmed in the Barracks, four days after Jack, Kate, and the others arrived in 1977. It was filmed in the morning. The Incident happened later that same day. ("Because You Left") ("The Variable")

Since Chang was interrupted during the filming, it is not known whether he later re-shot the entire film, or just the incomplete portion.

The film was directed by Kyker and filmed by Alex Bracken, with Jay, Fern and Aaron working as crew members. The names "Kyker" and "Bracken" are visible on the slate.

Text of the film

CHANG: Hello, I'm Dr. Marvin Candle, and this is the Orientation Film for Station Number Two, the Arrow. Given your specific area of expertise, you should find it no surprise that this station's primary purpose is to develop defensive strategies and gather intelligence on the Island's hostile indigenous population...
-"Because You Left"

Dr. Chang was interrupted during the filming and it is unknown what else he had to say about the station. ("Because You Left") ("The Variable")

  • The names Kyker and Bracken are listed as the director and cameraman of the Arrow Orientation film. ("Because You Left") This is a likely reference to prop master Rob Kyker and production staff member Don Bracken.
